Sydney Wineries

The Hunter Valley is the premier winery region of New South Wales and is located just 160 kilometres from Sydney. The area is home to a vast array of wineries, from small boutique family-run operations to large multi-national organisations. The area has emerged as a popular tourist destination and features countless restaurant and accommodation options.

Make an escape to the country and experience the stunning scenery of the valley, where vineyards run wild across the rolling hills. Visit the local wineries and experience the different flavours, many of which are not available anywhere else.

There are many tours operating from Sydney that will take you into the heart of this region and let you experience the local wine. Let the vibrant fruity flavours roll off your tongue and enjoy all this region has to offer.

De Bortoli

De Bortoli Wines was established in 1928 by Vittorio and Giuseppina De Bortoli, and is now a third generation family company. De Bortoli Wines has a large vineyard operating in the famous Hunter Valley of New South Wales.

A cellar door is set upon this 34 hectare property, where all of the fruit is handpicked before processing. The wines are full of character and personality, and have the ability to age gracefully in the bottle. Enjoy the De Bortoli family's Italian hospitality and taste one of their superb wines, including Murphy's Vineyard Semillion and Wills Hill Vineyards Shiraz.

Peterson House

Peterson's Champagne House is a winery specialising in premium sparkling wines, made by traditional methode champenoise. The winery was established in 1995 and features a large range of sparkling wines, from the easy drinking 'Blush' to the premium blends.

Restaurant Cuvee is the Peterson House Restaurant, featuring an extensive menu of modern Australian cuisine. Enjoy your meal on the large veranda overlooking the vineyard and let their friendly staff match a wine from their list to your meal. The restaurant is open daily for breakfast and lunch. It also caters for weddings and special events.

Wyndham Estate

Wyndham Estate has been producing quality Australian wines for more than 170 years, and is the oldest winery in New South Wales. The estate sits on the banks of the Hunter River, with its first vineyard being planted in 1830 by George Wyndham. Seven years later, he released the first vintage and it recieved rave reviews. By the 1850s it was being exported to England and India. The brand went from strength to strength, garnering a reputation for high standards and exceptional quality.

Today the winery is a favourite tourist destination and is home to a 400-seat restaurant and amphitheatre. Take part in a tour of the open fermenters and 100-year-old operation basket press, and gain an insight into the winemaking process. The estate hosts several events a year, with a major concert in February, and Opera in the Vineyard each October. Enjoy the famous Season's Plate Lunch held on the first weekend of each new season. Australia's top chefs visit to create dishes to match the estate's premium wines.

Tulloch Estate

Tulloch Wines features a new cellar door facility that combines contemporary design with traditional charm. Enjoy a wine tasting and take in the stunning view of the vineyard from the perfectly manicured garden. The building houses old winemaking equipment, historical photographs and pieces from the Tulloch family's rich history in the Hunter region, giving you a fascinating insight into the area's winemaking process.

Tulloch Wines is open daily from 10am to 5pm and vistors can enjoy a tasting of all the wines in their range. This includes their famous Tulluch Verdelho, as well as a range of cellar door exclusives.

Rothvale Winery

Rothvale Estate offers the perfect Hunter Valley escape. Stay in one of their self-contained cottages nestled amongst the vineyard. These charming cottages are the perfect place to spend a weekend, with a complimentary cheese platter and bottle of wine to get you started.

Head to Rothvale's cellar door for a detailed tasting. Let one of the knowledgeable staff give you a lesson on red and white wine and how to match these with different foods. Have a chat with one of the winemakers and learn about the art of making wine. The cellar door is open daily for tastings.

Audrey Wilkinson Vineyard

Audrey Wilkinson Winery dates back to 1866. It is nestled at the foothilss of the Brokenback Ranges in the Hunter Valley. Experience their award-winning wines with a tasting at the cellar door. Step back in time and experience the rich history of this winery with a tour of the Audrey Wilkinson Museum. See the historic tools from the winery's early days and learn about the family that started it all. A DVD tells the story of Audrey Wilkinson himself.

Oakdale House is the quaint little cottage that was constructed on the property in the 1950s. Nestled amongst the vineyards, this five-bedroom cottage is the perfect country escape, providing panoramic views of the Hunter Valley and Brokenback Ranges.
