>> An Introduction To North Sydney

North Sydney is located on the northern shore of Sydney Harbour and offers stunning views back across the city. The suburb is dominated by its large commercial hub, but it also features a wide variety of old heritage buildings to admire.

North Sydney features a strong business centre with many companies choosing to base their offices on this side of the harbour. Tall skyscrapers dominate the skyline and create a modern, vibrant backdrop.

For a bit of leisure time, there are some fantastic shopping centres in the area, with Berry Square and Greenwood Plaza being the largest. Alternatively, unleash your inner sports fan and head to North Sydney Oval to watch a game of rugby league.

Visit Mary MacKillop Place, a museum dedicated to Mary Mackillop, Australia's leading candidate for canonisation as a saint. Or head to Don Bank Cottage, the oldest wooden house in North Sydney. Built in 1853, the cottage is now home to a museum focusing on the social history of the area.

The area around North Sydney is scattered with grand old houses and historic buildings that are well worth a look. Some of these include the North Sydney Post Office, the Rag and Famish Hotel and the Greenwood Hotel. Take the Post Office to Waverton heritage walk and catch a glimpse of all these heritage listed properties, as well as panoramic views of the harbour.

In September each year, North Sydney hosts the Willoughby Festival. This festival features more than 40 events, including live music and entertainment, exhibitions, cultural celebrations and business events.

Access to the city is easy with the Harbour Bridge providing a direct road and rail link. North Sydney is more of a destination for the business traveller, but it offers plenty of attractions for tourists too.
